Waterfall Chest of Drawers Makeover

Once we decided to move all three boys into the same room, I started hunting for a taller chest of drawers to replace the dresser, since space would be limited.  I picked up this beauty off of Craigslist.  Normally, I would not paint over wood, but this one was in dire need of repair.  It is hard to see from the picture, but deep pieces of the veneer were missing and the top was completely scratched up, but I adore the waterfall design and the handles are darling.

Before

First, my DH sanded the whole chest down and patched the holes with some wood filler.  Next, we rolled some primer on the majority of the chest.  Instead of waiting a full day allowing the primer to set, we (after 2 hours) became impatient and sprayed 3 coats of a high gloss Behr Premium Interior Paint from Home Depot.  We had them color match from a Dunn Edwards paint (because I didn't feel like driving all the way to DE) in Green Bayou.

Aesthetically, I luuurve the color.  Functionally, it is extremely sticky.  Anything placed on the chest clings to the paint and I have to yank it up when comes time to clean.  I suppose this is because we were impatient with the the time between coats of paint.  We also did not put a layer of varnish over the paint.

After

I just love how the handles pop.
